Vijay and Ajith Relationship

All of us know about the sparring in the media Kollywood actors Vijay and Ajith. It spilled over in their films which had dialogues taunting each other. The day before yesterday however was different. Vijay who had come to AVM studios for attending the launch of E, made an unannounced entry into the launch function of Ajith’s Tirupathi. He hugged Ajith and pleasantries were exchanged. While everyone stood dazed in surprise, both attended the E function together.

Vijay and Ajith are good pals

There is a general opinion in film industry that there is a cold war between Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay and Ultimate Star Ajith. This can be seen in their recent releases. But director Perarasu who is directing Sivakasi with Vijay and Tirupathi with Ajith says that “Ajith and Vijay are good friends. But only persons around them make the news very elusive.” After, the movie Tirupathi was conformed, Vijay was the first to convey wishes to Perarasu. He also added by saying that the film should surely end up in success. Similarly, Ajith has conveyed his wishes for the success of Sivakasi.

Azhagiya Thamizh Magan goes on set today

Encouraged by the success of Pokkiri, Vijay is all ready to start work on his next project. It is an original Tamil film titled Azhagiya Thamizh Magan. The film is being directed by Bharathan, who has assisted Dharani in Gilli as well as other films. This is Bharathan's first film as a director. Bharathan had written the dialogues for Gilli. Vijay had liked the story Bharathan had narrated to him then and went on to give his call sheet for the film. The shooting starts today.

The film is produced by Appachan's Swargachitra. During Friends, Appachan had asked for Vijay's call sheet as well as given him advance for the next project. What started a few years ago, finally finds fruit in Azhagiya Thamizh Magan now. After Udaya, AR Rehman composes music for Vijay's film now. Camera is by Balasubramaniam. Anthony does the film coortdination and Fefsi Vijayan composes the stunt scenes. Bharathan has a proper script in place and is starting shooting with firm ideas. So it could well be that Azhagiya Thamizh Magan will also be a competitor for Sivaji and Dasavataram.

Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay

Vijay has become the commanding force of the Tamil industry with popularity and business support next only to the superstar Rajinikanth. But, the success and the adulation did not happen overnight. His journey has met with several obstacles and failures. His determination and self-confidence have brought him the laurels. Vijay comes from a family which has strong experience in the film industry. Father, S. A. Chandrasekaran is a popular director and mother Shoba is an accomplished playback singer. Vijay has a soft corner for anyone who answers to the name Vidya for it is the name of his sister who died when she was just two. He made his debut as a child artiste in the film, Vetri. His first film as hero was Nalaiya theerpu. He has acted in 48 films so far. Films like Rasigan, Senthurappandi and Deva made him the badshah of B and C centres while Kadhalukku mariyadhai, Poove unakkaga, Once more, Gilli, etc. made his appeal sore among the urban audience.

He is the youngest actor to have won the MGR award from the Tamil Nadu Government and Kalaimamani title. His inspiration are MGR’s Nadodi mannan, Rajini’s Annamalai and Vijayakanth’s Sattam oru iruttarai and Vanathaippola. Vijay is talented in all aspects of acting like dance, action and emoting. He has worked with perseverance to hone his skills and prove his detractors wrong. At 31, he is the youngest star to have completed 48 films and already there is competition about who would produce his 50th film.

Vijay has excellent rapport with his peers Ajith, Prasanth and Surya.A shy and intensely private person, Vijay has steered clear of any controversy. He is happily married to London-born Sangeetha. They have a son, Jason Sanjay and a just-born daughter. A total family man, he prefers spending his free time with his wife and kids and can only be rarely seen in filmi gatherings. He is an accomplished sportsperson who can play basketball, football, cricket and volleyball. He plumps for idli and dosa with coriander chutney and hogs on seafood, chicken, tandoori and Chinese dishes. There were several pinpricks about his appearance and doubts about his talent. He has steadily strode to thrash them out and today is a leading star with mass appeal. Behind the smile is the sweat of perseverance.

Vijay: Slow and steady to win the race

Vijay is on a threshold of his career when it is highly imperative for him to give a hit. The career graph of Vijay was a steep line with successive hits of Gilli, Tirupaachi, and Sivakasi. Producers rarely complained of a loss and he even earned a name of producer's delight. Meanwhile when he tried a soft romantic role in Sachien, his fans did not accept him, which made him get into a set mould once again. When his action movie Aadhi failed at the box office, it was time for Vijay to wake up and start analyzing his career.

Shobha Chandrasekhar’ s praise for Asin

No it is not the Italian, Chinese or continental cuisine that is keeping the lead lady of top heroes fit and healthy. You would be surprised to note what Asin’s favorite food is. It is fish curry and biriyani – cooked by none other than Shoba Chandrasekhar - you guessed it right, Vijay’s mother. Favorite food cooked by a top hero’s mother – a rare combination to find indeed. Not many would have the luck to share a very good rapport with Vijay’s mother. It seems to be Asin’s turn now after Trisha.Shoba Chadrasekhar is all praises for Asin and she loves Asin’s smile –every one of us do as well. The other aspect that seemed to have bonded the relationship is Asin’s simplicity. Well we are sure Shoba has reasons to state so.After sharing screen space with Vijay in a couple of hits, it is Asin’s turn again to cast opposite him in Prabhudeva’s Pokkiri. Asin seemed to have been in a sabbatical for a while and is back again with a bang.

Pokkiri Movie Launch

After almost six months, it was action, start, camera for Vijay. The actor's Pokiri being directed by Prabhudeva hit the floors. A remake of Telugu blockbuster, Pokiri stars Asin opposite him.A host of celebrities including director S A Chandrasekhar, producer-director Rama Narayanan, Prakash Raj took part in a function held on Thursday. Vijay’s mom Shobana clapped the movie to a start.

Speaking at the function, Vijay, said, 'We have made few modifications in the script to suit the Tamil audience. I am keen to render a blockbuster with Pokiri'. epischomagi: Asked why he has restricted himself only to Tamil, the actor said, ' I am happy with the roles I get here. It is Tamil filmdom that brought me name and fame. Hence I concentrate on Tamil only for now'. Asin was also thrilled to work with Vijay after the success of Sivakasi. She has changed her hair styling for the movie.

On his part, Prabhudeva, said, 'I am taking all efforts to render a success in Pokiri. Directing a popular star like Vijay is a real challenge, which I relish'.The movie will be released this January.

Vijay wants to do Rajini's film

Vijay, many Kollywood observers, have said is the true follower of Rajinikanth's formula. So it should come as small surprise that Vijay has evinced interest in doing a Rajini movie as a remake. As everyone knows, today's fad is to remake and re-interpret hits of yesteryear. Bollywood has started the trend. There is a talk of Tamil movies too following suit.Among Rajini's hits, Billa and Thee are billed to be remade again. In this context, Vijay, asked by a Tamil newspaper, has specifically said that if Rajini's blockbuster Murattu Kalai is remade, he would want to play the title role.In a sense, it is also apt that somebody like Vijay, who has a mass following, take up the mantle of Rajinikanth.

Azhagiya Tamil Magan - The NEXT!!!

Azhagiya Tamil Magan (2007) is a forthcoming high budget Tamil film directed by Bharathan. Bharathan who worked with Vijay in Gilli as an Assistant Director and dialogue writer will be directing the movie. Rumors also suggest that Shreya is the lead choice for the movie. This movie is creating great expectations as Vijay and AR Rahman are joining hands.

Marriage Life

He was married to Sangeetha after an arranged alliance.

Career

Vijay's career graph has been markedly different from Ajith's. While Ajith's has had several ups and downs (think of a sine wave!), Vijay's has been a slow but steady rise to the top followed by a steep decline. He had the immense advantage of having a popular director as his father and so, found an easy entry into films. It was his father S.A.Chandrasekhar who introduced him as a hero in Naalaya Theerppu in 1992. But he did not stop there and continued to make several movies with his son as hero. Though these movies (in most of which Vijay was paired with Sangavi) were steeped in vulgarity and unabashedly targeted the front benchers, they achieved the important objective of keeping Vijay in the public eye.

Vijay's real break came with Vikraman's Poove Unakkaaga. The movie rewrote box-office records and Vijay, who departed from his typical roles to play a soft-spoken, lovelorn youngster, found his ticket to stardom. He perfected the role in movies like Love Today and Nilaave Vaa and gradually found increased acceptance among the fairer sex too. The peak that I mentioned before in his career was undoubtedly Fazil's Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai. The movie was a blockbuster and the latest in a string of hits that placed Vijay in the hallowed company of Rajnikanth and Kamalahassan as far as the distributors were concerned. At that point, he could do no wrong as even Priyamudan, where he played a negative character of a youth obsessed with a woman, became a hit.

Vijay's downfall started with 1999's Endrendrum Kaadhal. His movies started falling like nine pins and he must have seen the writing on the wall with the failure of Minsaara Kannaa, which was helmed by hit director K.S.Ravikumar. His father hastened his downfall with the terrible Nenjinile. The last nail in the coffin, so to speak, was Fassil's Kannukkul Nilavu. The failure of this movie, which brought together the same team that was behind Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai, has shaken Vijay's confidence. But his personal life has always been on an even keel and he was recently married to Sangeetha after an arranged alliance. Memories are notoriously short in Kodambakkam where an actor or actress is only as good as their last hit. With Kushi too being a disappointment at the box-office, Vijay is desperately looking for a hit for some time now to get back into the race and make things interesting for the viewers. He has several releases this year like Friends, remake of a Malayalam superhit and Priyamaanavale, reteaming him with Simran. Lets hope these push him back into the race.
